Hi All,

I am new to this forum & as of April, will be coming to the UK (from Australia) for the first time, doing some touring around and fulfilling the lifelong dream of visiting Badminton Horse Trials. :D

Whilst touring around, I do plan to fit in some riding. I have already booked in a dressage lesson at Talland....however, as I will be staying very near Wickstead for part of our journey, do they do jumping or XC lessons on schoolmasters? I have tried contacting them but am yet to get a response via email (phoning is a bit tricky with the time difference!)

Any other "must dos" on our trip? We'll be spending time in London of course, touring the Cotswolds, seeing a bit of Europe...and after Badminton, we jump on a plane and head for Rolex Kentucky! Exciting, or what? ;)

Hi

Sorry to see no one had replied to you - they're not normally that quiet
Sounds like you're in for a fantastic time.
Wickstead do offer lessons I believe (haven't been up there for years, so can't comment on their horses / level).
Other options....
Depending on when you arrive there is an April meeting at Cheltenham (think it's the 12/13th) if you want to see some racing.
There are also a few local-ish point to points around then if you're interested - fixtures on pointtopoint.co.uk
If you're in London long enough go and see Warhorse - fantastic play.
How's that as a starter for 10?

Hi - sorry don't know about Wickstead. However, if you are in the area over Easter and not at Badminton on the Friday, then Lambourn has an open day with the racing stables are open to the public and an afternoon of events takes place (google Lambourn Open Day). Or if you go to Newmarket (about 2 hours 30 by car from Wiltshire) you can go to the horseracing museum and the National Stud. Middle of May is Royal Windsor Horse Show if you are still in the area. Hope this is of some help.

Thanks for the ideas guys! I already had a visit to the Royal Mews on the cards, in amongst all of the usual London sightseeing. Will have to do a tour of Lords though to keep the sport-minded hubby entertained. :D

My sister saw War Horse when she was travelling in 2009 & told me it was a must-see. Now to find out where it is on & if it will fit in with our London plans (will be in London first week of April).
