Hi , can any one tell me how long this test lasts for, i will be travelling my horse approx 3hours to take it and i would like to know how long a day it will be for him.thanks
First bit is you watch a DVD (not sure if that's actually part of the test or just a revision opportunity!) followed by a theory test ... about 20 mins each I recall. I think you need at least 70% to pass the theory and you can't go on to do the other 2 parts unless you DO pass the theory. Its designed to keep you safe. If you pass the theory bit, then you go out to an "artificial road" test area. When I did mine it was in a flat field in the riding school. Roads and junctions are marked out and expect a hazard or two like a push chair or a person walking with an umbrella. You will be asked to dismount at some point and (when I did it) you had to remount from the other side. Again, no more than about 10 mins actual riding but if there's a group of you, you might be hanging around for an hour. If you pass the simulation part, you go out onto the real roads and have to negotiate junctions, parked cars, hazards etc. That part again is only about 10 mins per horse and rider but if there's a group it may well take longer. Also the safe road area might well be a short ride from the place you are taking the test. When I did mine, we hacked down a main road (!) to a safe housing estate to do the "real" roadwork part. Good luck and let us know how you do!
i think mine was about 3hrs with 8/9 of us. we did the simulation in the 2nd school (test was in autumn) & road part was 200/250 yards - out of yard onto a lane turn onto an A road then left onto a B road turn into a driveway then back to yard. but i did mine nearly 10 years ago
