My daughter (secondary school age) has been riding for two years, can walk, trot, canter and has jumped 2' in a very small local show. We don't have a horse, and she currently rides once a week as part of a Pony Club at a Centre quite a distance away. I'm thinking about moving her to somewhere a bit closer to home so she can travel to the centre herself, therefore ride more often and - possibly, in the longer term, either loan or share a horse.

I'd be very grateful for any thoughts on the suitability of riding schools near Bath, especially any that offer Pony Club or similar activities. Many thanks in advance.

I don't know if this is too far, but I visited the Trekking Centre at Wellow yesterday and was totally amazed to be taken back in time to the early 1980's, at least in the level of activity, noise and general fun atmosphere.

We were there to try a horse for my wife so I have no idea what activities they get up to, but there were horses and ponies of all shapes and sizes, and the place was running with helpers / staff who seemed to vary in age between about ten and sixty years of age, amazing place and really took me back to my riding school days.

Many thanks. Wellow is local-ish, we'll have a look at it next week. Unfortunately it's not served by public transport so if she was to go there it'd still be by "Dad's taxi" - but that appears to be the life of the father of a teenage daughter!

Yup, that's about the size of it.

Mine was into sk8ing at that age, so I spent a lot of time in towns that had skate parks in them. At least Wellow has a nice cafe on site, so it's not all bad.
