A bill is being introduced to remove liability if horses (or other animals) are "spooked" and cause damage or harm... Article
Fingers crossed! Sounds a bit too sensible to ever go through though but we shall see. Wonder if this would reduce the insurance premiums that riding schools etc have to pay and therefore the prices we pay for lessons - or it that just wishful thinking...
good! i used to work at a riding school / trekking centre and some people would try to sue even after they had signed one of those forms (cant remember what they are called!) they used to do my head in, i would tell them not to scream, shout or mess around with the horses and would they listen? no. of course some accidents had nothing to do with the rider, but the majority of people who sue were people who couldn't ride or underestimated their ability, or underestimated the horses xx

A disclaimer - disclaimers in these circumstances (in this country) are not worth the paper they are written on.
Re. the OP, I shall be interested to see how this progresses
I cant help thinking.... it's a good move... but it will only remove responsibility under criminal law. It *wont* stop cases being brought under civil law. Ie, whatever the legality of an incident, you can always sue someone for it.
I hope that does happen, pickle is kept at a riding school on working livery and I love my yard so much, and its so hard when there is all this unease about accidents etc
God I hope it changes! U are more likely to come off a horse than a motorbike!! And my instructor was explaining how they are the 2nd most dangerous sport in the world, an if your not prepared for that don't even bother getting on!
I think it will make it harder to sue though, as you would have to prove negligence more than you do now I guess. I just think that all riding schools should be like gyms, you HAVE to have an induction and sign a waiver saying you have been shown the health and safety and that it is now in your hands unless there is negligence.
