Hi all,

Am due to move home in the new year to a gorgeous place called Snelsmore Common. It's just to the north of Newbury, near villages called Winterbourne and another called Curridge.

I went on Sunday to have a look at the cottage we would be moving to and just to have a look around the area. Completely fallen in love! :)

I found a local riding school called Curridge Green riding school. I was just wondering if anybody knew the area and any other schools/yards.

I have always ridden and would eventually like to have my own horse but want to get back in the saddle and get my skills back up to scratch before thinking about owning myself. Just wanted to know if anybody was from around that area and knew of any good schools or yards as I would consider a loan/share.

Thanks in advance! Sorry for the rambling!

Not sure if you remember but I commented on one of your earlier threads saying you were moving, as grew up just outside of Reading!

It does sound like I was the other side, but how far from Arborfield are you?

Also if you come to wanting to buy, I can help with good, honest, reputable dealers in the area :)

Hi Claudia, thanks for your reply, yes I do remember you replying to my other post! Having looked on the map (am not familiar with the area yet!) it looks as though Arborfield is about a half hour drive from where the new house would be. I'm definitely willing to travel, heaven knows I've driven miles to ride before! Thanks for the offer of advice when buying that will be hugely appreciated!

Does anyone know of any schools closer? Thanks! Polly x

Well I started learning at Clouds about 15 years ago, and after a few years break I went back there for a bit before buying my own. Have to say I would highly recommend. Nothing there is perfect, dont get me wrong, but they made me feel at home straight away, fab facilities, lovely ponies and horses, and some great instructors. Also dont fuss around with barely letting you touch the horse, I was being reminded of how to tack up etc, which was a breath of fresh air in a health and safety gone mad world!

I know of a few but not sure how close to you they are, let me consult with Google maps and I will get back to you ;)

Hi Polly, I used to live in Brightwalton and learnt to ride again at Curridge Green riding school. I also kept my horse on livery there for 3 years. It was a very friendly place but I don't think my teacher is there any more. If you are looking for a happy hackers type of place then it would definitely suit you. If you visit and see John the owner please tell him Colonel's mum says hello!

Thanks Bertie_Boo! If I go I will definitely make sure to say hi from you! It's the closest stables to me so will definitely go and check it out? Looking for some lessons and some happy hacks, to rid me of my riding rust! I can ride and am confident in walk, trot and canter but want to also build on my stable and horse management etc! Thanks all for your replies! Polly x
