Are there any rules governing riding schools with regards to the amount of horses per acre of turnout, non existant grazing and the feeding and bedding of mouldy forage?

Can't swear to it, but I think there is. A friend in England used to ride somewhere that was -even to her non horsey eyes- a disgrace and was closed down. Don't know who by, but it was a proper official closure and not them going out of business

You could try reporting the place to the ABRS or the BHS

agree with the above. Also Riding schools have to have annual inspections (our yard had theirs a few weeks ago), where everything's checked, all horses vet checked (trotted up, eyes, heart), stables, fields everything. So if it's that bad maybe contact the council, as it's them who give the RS their licence?

They have an annual inspection which is where horses and tack are hidden and lies are told. It's not a thorough check just a tick box exercise. Should be spot checks

It happend at a place I worked only allowed 6 horses had about 11, they were always swapping the nice tack for the rubbish tack. I left in the end. The horses never went without but the owner was so lazy and I ended up doing everything and working 13 hours a day 6 days a week. I kid you not she took the mickey. She got a student after me who got fed up after a month and left.
