Hi :)

More of a lurker than a poster really but i'm need of some recomendations!

Going back to uni in Colchester in september/october and as i shall be on a placement year (yay money :D ) i won't be able to be in the riding team or a reserve etc this year as i'll be working full time! I will also actually have some money as i'll be paid a decent amount :D and i finally have a car so am looking for a new riding stables close by!

Had a little look online and found a few that look quite good although some are a bit awkward and seem to have a set timetable which would interfere with work! I'm finally having some private lessons (at home) and am finally getting somewhere with all the bad habits i seem to have picked up recently

So, looking for a decent riding school, no 'plod around following nose in front' types and would be nice to go somewhere with some nicely schooled/schoolmaster/ex competition types. Went to Newton Hall last year/early this year for team training but its a little bit of a trek to get there, so wondering if anyone knows somewhere closer to the uni side of colchester, or easy driving distance of the hospital.

Ooops i seem to have written an essay  appologies :p

Thank-you all :)

Hi, there's riding schools in Alsresford, Great Bromley and Friday Woods area but have no experience of them. Crockleford Stud (google them) let a friend of mine hack out but she got bored as only hacked round own land. Try an ad in Priory Saddlery, Boxted or Feed & Treats at Manningtree as these areas full of small holdings with loads of privately owned horses. Further afield (again no personal experience) Foots Farm, Clacton way and one of the 2 schools at Bentley Suffolk are often at local shows with clients so prob do more.
I've got nothering for you to ride but most of the time go to shows on my own if you fancy grooming (well keeping me company)! Travel in summer tend to stick to local winter.
Good luck

Thanks for the suggestions, shall check them out!

And thanks for the offer of being groom :) would be lovely just to go to some comps to watch and help out! I miss the horse care side of things, and will have most weekends free this autumn i expect. Whereabouts are you?

I'd advise staying away from ANY riding schools near Friday woods...
Try the Garrison in Fordham, or park farm in Horksley..
