Hi,
This has probably been discussed before but, how many of you carried on riding while pregnant and at what point did you stop?
Rider pregnant by the way not horse!!

i stopped riding at about 7 1/2- 8 mths as it got uncomfortable. i never did anything silly and never put myself in a situation where i knew my horse might argue with me.

but it would completley depend on your horse. i had only just bought mine and then fell pregnant a week after i bought her so we didnt know each other very well. i would do more if i got pregnant again as i now know my horse better but prob wouldnt ride over 8mths as i kept bumping my bump on the saddle!!!

every pregnancy is so different tho. as long as you are comfortable and happy go for it!!

congrats by the way :-)

With my first child i rode up until my due date and had a little girl 6 days later. With my second i didnt get to ride much but that was only more so due to looking after my daughter. I only walked and a little trot. Someone told me that it softens and opens your pelvis. Dont know how true that is although i wasnt in labour to long with my daughter (my first)!

Hi there and congratulations.
Just wanted to say that I've got 2 children and I rode right up until giving birth with both. I didn't jump, but I hacked and schooled and felt great for doing it. Both my children were 2 weeks overdue and I was hacking out the day before I gave birth. Obviously it does depend on the horse and on how you feel, but I would say absolutely go for it. I had stitches both times but was riding a week to ten days afterwards with no ill effects. Mentally I think it keeps you happy and sane, and physically it keeps you fit and that can only be a good thing.
But be prepared for disapproval from your midwife and from non horsey people!
Good luck and enjoy it x

With my son I rode til I was 8 months (and then I only really stopped as my mare went lame!) I'm 29 wks now and still riding - although not very strenuous stuff - It keeps my brain ticking over and relaxes me! Be prepared for people raising an eyebrow though - and have fun walking around baby shops in riding stuff... it's quite amusing! :OD
Kate x

Im 6 months pregnant at the moment, and im am still riding.

Although I am not jumping, and got a full set of jumps for xmas that are still under cover :(

I was just going to keep going until I couldnt anymore, and only flat work.

Hi and congratulations! I rode up until I was 32 weeks pregnant and only stopped as I put my boy out on loan. I agree with the other posts about getting disapproving looks! My mother in law thought I was being reckless, but my GP was fine about it. Best of luck x

I was also told it makes you a better rider as you dont want to fall off so it teaches you to sit a bit tighter!! Although i fell of a few times it just made me more emotional lol!!

I didn't know I was pregnant and had a bad fall at 4.5 months (broke ribs, head injury and went blind for a bit) but I never went to hospital. I found out I was pregnant a month after that.

My son has autsim. He is 13 now and goes to a special needs school. I don't know if he will be able to have a job or a normal life and each time his teachers call me I see a little of his future slip away.

I have always felt responsible that the trauma of the fall caused the autism - we will never kno for certain....

IMO it is not work the risk to ride any faster than a walk on the safest plod. But that is just how I feel.
