does the loop go over the poll, through the bit rings and between front legs and clips clip onto girth? Is that right? So in order to shorten it you adjust the plastic toggle on the poll ? Or, does the loop go round the girth and the clips clip to the bit rings? Shortening it by adjusting the toggle behind the girth?

I've always seen it used the first way - loop on the poll; never ridden in one myself, so wouldn't want to pass an opinion.

Toggle at the poll. i use mine to lunge in. You can also put the clips either between the legs, to or to any of the other ring points on the roller for lunging depending on the horse the desired effect your looking for. Ive only used it between the legs for riding in though.
