This might get a little boring but my god, no one go riding with your non horsey boyfriend/girlfriend because it's just not worth the stress

My OH is into walking/hiking but absolutly hates horses, he's terrified of them. So today, he went for a walk and I said i'd catch him up on the horse and we'd walk back together to the yard.

So he got about 45 minutes headstart and I had just set off when I got a phonecall - he's not been able to complete the walk because there are loads of cows in the last field and he's too scared and can't walk through them.

When I finally caught him up, I tried to position my ponio so we were walking side by side, but everytime we got lined up OH moved away, after a couple of minutes like this he snapped and shouted "HE'S FOLLOWING ME! FOR GODS SAKE" and actually looked genuinely unsettled

So we continue dwalking for a little while, getting edgy looks the whole time. Suddenly he goes, "whats that on his leg?" so i start thinking oh god. We stopped, and I started leaning trying to see the inside of his leg whilst mounted.
"it looks like a...oh god, it's all crusty, it looks like a gash...what is it?!" I still couldn't see anything and was a bit worried by the fuss he was making so I dismounted, and started examining his legs and couldn't see anything. OH points to his chesnut. *sigh*

So I asked him to stand by ponies head so he doesn't try to move forward while I get back on. Now, ok it doesn't help that my pony is a bit nippy anyway but as soon as he breathed in and looked in his general direection, OH jumped away leaving me scrambling on for dear life, and I accidentally kicked him in the arm

And finally, when we got back to the yard, I took off his numnah to wash when I got back home. He said "what are you washing that for? you don't need to wash stuff like that do you?" I showed him the underneath and it's all hairy and sweaty and he said "for gods sake, shouldn't you have done that sooner?"

Gah! The end.

PS But we did get a couple of rather nice pictures

Oh dear, I'm lucky, mine gave up and joined in! We used to occasionally go out with OH running (he runs about 15 -20km a time!) and me on FB, who never knew whether to trot really fast or canter alongside!!

Here's a recent pic of OH out on MoM, I think he's looking forward to getting Jiro when he's fit to ride:

LOL thats funny. Saying that a woman got trampled by by cows just down the road a couple of weeks ago, so they're not to be messed with

I went out with my OH yesterday- he rode our 11.2 Section A (my OH doesn't weigh much I hasten to add!). He looked very funny but really enjoyed it!

Mine's a nightmare too! We always row when he comes down the yard because I ask him to do things and he gets stressed, lol. He's very nervous so if I ask anything of him that he might feel uncomfortable about he gets really narky!

I am getting my boyfriend trained at the moment. He used to not go near them saying they should all be called "Dogmeat" and "Bostik", however about 2 months ago I caught him chattering away to an arab colt and giving him a good old scratch and since then he will happily look after mine without my "interference".
The other day he asked if he could ride Misty (NO she is lame) but my friend offered her horse, he even tried on my hat which fitted him scarily well so I am waiting for the day when he asks for his first ride!

Hehe - I had the same thing from my OH about the horse's chestnut!
Lovely pics and I'm very jealous of your hacking country - it looks fab!

Hahaha been there I feel your pain!

Except I was working at a Treking centre in NZ and his wife and kids had conviced him that it would be a great holiday activity and he would love it (they rode) he was willing to try it till actually faced with the horse he had to ride. The others went off with the other guide for their ride and I had the challenge of convncing him to ride 500m across the river so we could join them for lunch. After 1hr!! of demonstrating how safe this horse was (I swear I did everything I could think of short of handstands on his back) he agreed to cross the river (too cold/deep to wade and no bridge).

Being a typical man on the way back he wanted to go faster ARGH!!!!!

Those of you who have converted their OH well done! =)-

lol I only got a horse when I was already with OH so he has had no choice but to join in and after a year and a half he is doing really well. Having had no contact with horses he can now do daily stable duties, turn out, bring in, sit on while being led and in the last week lunge!
