hi, had saddler out and he noticed that the saddle panels were uneven (one was flatter/smaller then the other.) from where im sitting unevenly. also horse is a bit sore on left side as he rests this leg often (although he does have regular physio checks). corrected the saddle so now i have to correct me! i dont know exactly what im doing but i always feel twisted and am constantly wiggling to try and get comfy and balanced. what can i do to make sure im sitting straight so i dont harm the saddle or the poor horse? (what i feel as straight is actually wonky so that doesnt help hahaha )
ive grown recently so thinking about going to a chiro to check im actually all straight...hopefully that will help.
any other suggestions??.

Lunge lessons? Pilates? I found bareback riding and then no-stirrup work very good for making me sit properly and become balanced. It would definitely be worth getting checked out, though, just to see all is okay physically.

I would def go to the chiro. I felt seriously wonky last year, could feel one shoulder blade touching car seat but not the other when driving, and wasas crooked as hell. I'm wonky again at the moment, but as I'm having serious problems with my neck, the chiro will have to wait till the quack has given me the all clear!
If not wonky, then alexandra technique is supposed to be very good, as well as pilates.

I've got one leg longer than the other; had no idea until relatively recently when I had to have a medical for something........ plus I have mild scoliosis which means one hip is slightly higher than the other, and I also rotate the pelvis more one way than the other!

So the fact that your saddle has worn unevenly is obviously giving you the clue that you are uneven in your sitting and your movement - this is very common and so you don't need to feel you're in any way a "freak".

I always wondered why I could get a better canter lead on one side and not the other, but never knew WHY!!!

I would personally recommend that as others have said, you find a good osteo/chiropractor and have a few sessions with them; then you might benefit from having a "top up" appointment say four times a year just to keep you right. I would strongly suspect that you have a degree of crookedness/imbalance or whatever.

Also your horse will need some attention too; you have the signs there that there may be pain, i.e. resting a leg - which is an indicator of pain/discomfort somewhere, so this would definately flag up to me that your horse's back or musculature is sore and needs some treatment. Again, this will probably need to be a regular occurrence, also you need to have the saddle checked at regular intervals too.

I'm lucky in that I have a chiropractor who does both me and the horses; which is the best thing to do if you can get someone. I use a McTimoney practitioner. I see her four times a year, the horse(s) twice a year. Saddle checks twice yearly, spring & autumn.
