ridinng in company how to teach horse manners??

well had H out for a fun ride for the borders festival of the horse, now she is usually a quite lass and quite well behaved when ridden with another horse. so i didnt think a group would change things, oh how wrong i was!!! She wanted her nose in front the whole time, and no matter how many times i asked her to collect and stay with the group (in a walk!!) she would stick her head down and pull :( Even if i tryed to keep her behind a horse (with riders consent lol) she still tried to barge past, if i didnt allow her to pass she would litterally have her nose in the tail of the horse in front, which is asking for a kick in the chest imo.
Luckly the leader of the ride was very understanding and didnt mind us being ahead of the pack so to speak but i felt as tho H was being very rude.
Now H is 16 but has done nothing with her life so is very green in some aspects, at home she listens and is very considerate.

So im needing some ideas as to how i can teach her to have some manners in big groups and that she doesnt need to have her nose out in front all the time. All advise considered

my first pony was like this we used to hack to pony club, and she had to be in front all the time. I did not have the experience back then to fix it (but long for the days when it was safe to hack on the roads, we can't do it anymore).

You said she was okay with another, maybe start with smaller groups (2-3) and so hacking on a regular basis.

At least be happy you must have a very confident horse, that is a plus.
 
to be honest i think the only way to teach is to ride in a group more often. do you have 2 or 3 people that could hack out with you and help you to teach her to stay behind in a group
 
i feel yr pain - my 21 yr old - ie old enough to know better:rolleyes: - was a nightmare in a ridden showing class at the week end - the group canter was interesting to say the least - it certainly reminded me that she rarely goes out in any size gp - i usually hack with one other friend - & i clearly need to put some group canter practise in
 
well im deffinatly planning to do more thats for sure, and ditto ridng in smaller groups more often think thats maybe the best thing to do :D shes such a fun little horse
