I have a gelding which is very riggy, he gets very attached to mares, even worse while in season, today I saw him mount the gate with his "woohooo" ( :P ) out which has a mare on the other side. He did well in racing - i dont know if this could mean he was kept as a stallion throughout?

Also Does anyone recommend any supplement which could control his testosterone levels?

Thoughts, opinions and advice please!

Thanks, R :)

I have an ex racer that's a bit riggy and has been mounting mares and geldings!! I put him on global herbs rig calm and its been fantastic hardly takes an interest at all anymore to either sex!

Not sure if its common could leave them later if they had successful parents in case they want to breed from them. mine was born in America and flown over at 1yr and was a colt then so not sure how late they leave them.

Well he isnt unpredictable, dangerous or a childs pony, I can deal with him completely just wondered if a supplement would benefit him so he doesnt have to get stressed over mares. He isnt hard to handle or anything, he is a complete star, Just wouldnt want him being stressed if theres something i can do to stop it.

Global Herbs Rig Calm, its works trust me, don't expect it to work straight away, give it chance you'll see an improvement after a month of being on it.

I wouldn't be so ready to assume he was riggy. You'd be amazed at how common it is for a gelding to mount a mare. Some just love being with mares. Some mount an in-season mare but once hoiked on her back end (especially if she's rugged lol) sort of forget what's supposed to happen next. Some go as far as penetration even though they are 100% geldings. My sweet veteran Highland x Sullivan was as gelded as they come and as safe and sane and kind a horse as you would have found anywhere. A pretty little cob mare joined the yard (mares and geldings in together at that time) and they fell in love immediately! The little cob mare was a feisty lass and would commandeer the field shelter and let no other horses in except my Sullivan. Well, one day Sullivan was spotted by the yard staff doing the little mare a HUGE favour. I was mortified! How could that little slapper seduce my innocent boy??? Yeah, ri-i-ight!!! Since then I found out that it's surprisingly common and nothing to worry about. You should see my 8hh shetland tart Molly trying to seduce the YO's 16hh veteran when she's in season! Jeez! Get a room guys lol.
