Does anyone know a good herbal hormone calmer/balancer , it's my last option for his sake really I have to try this, he isn't a rig but he was used for breeding and it's just left him wanting to do his job and i've left him to calm down etc but he has 5 mares squirting at him at the moment and his behaviour is just getting worse so I'm going to try this... if anyone can help :) xx

Hi Global Herbs - RigCalm is reported to be good. I use RelaxMe with good results as a general 'calmer'. If I were you I would chat to your vet - they may be able to prescribe something to supress his testosterone. Good luck!

I was thinking that too, he drives mares mad though as well which is confusing me though.. as in there is one stabled behind him and there is a gap in the wall he says hello to her and she will squeal and kick the wall like a maniac... he has this effect on every mare he gets near! I may speak to the vet a bit more about it. thank you xx

i would recomend rigcalm :)
i used to show a pony for someone who was previously shown as a stallion, who was then used for stud work, then gelded. He would always seek attention from mares and they would flirt back;) and he just acted like a stallion. This was when i was a bit younger- before i had handled and ridden any stallions so i found it very difficult to handle. But when he went on rigcalm, he calmed right down. Worked wonders for us, but every horse is different :)

However, if you find it doesnt work for you, i would deffinately contact your vet to see if they can do anything to help :)

Another vote for Relax Me I use it for my riggy lad and it works wonders, still a g*t at times but a lot better than before. Especially at this time of year when he turns himself inside out not knowing what to do, he gets full of the joys of spring and that can get interesting

i might have to give rig calm to my gelding , hes not a horrible horse but he likes the mares a bit to much , he does not kick them or try to mount them, he just likes to be with them , trying to cope with a 16,2 x race horse who is on his toes cause ive taken away from his mare is not good .

how long does it take to get in there system?

do you feed it once per day or every other day
etc..

em x x x

I use the global herbs one on my dartmoor rig, just takes the edge off, only time he gets really awful is at shows etc, which is why he hasn't been to many yet! he rears vertical and strikes out with his front feet at you, normally he's a real sweetie if a little cheeky but mares in season send him into naughty Rolo! Def worth trying, they'll send you a weeks sample pack to try, they did me :) good luck

We recently took on an ex brood mare as company for my bolshy lad after losing his friend to colic.
Both encouraged each other, to the extent that I had to seperate them, put them both on Stroppy Mare, life is so much calmer, no need to seperate, hardly know she's in season, at last the quiet life I long for

As an aside, I'm not sure whether being used for breeding has that much to do with a gelding's desire to mate. I had a sec D who was cut at 3 or so (never been used for breeding) and he mounted everything in sight with mares constantly seeking his attentions. I now have a 7 yr old sec D who was a licensed stallion and has 13 foals to his name. he was cut at 5 (s0 2 yrs ago) and although the mares all fancy him and he's always got at least one on the go (whoever is in season) he's not half as randy as the other one I had. I don't have shoes on the current horse, so if he does mount the mares, he doesn't do any damage. Other geldings at the yard mount the mares as well, and they were all cut when quite young.
