hello
ive got myself a new horse 6 weeks ago, registered irish draught mare dapple grey by flagmount diamond, 9 years old, 16hh shes doing really well, the last owner got her as a 4 year old and only really did hacking but ive had her jumping over 3ft courses and shes being doing great did our first little show last thursday and got a 1st, one thing is when ive been doing schooling she bends fine while on the right rein but then when i go on the left rein shes really stiff and hard to get to bend ive been doing a lot of troting and start of with 20m circles then do smaller circles but shes just really finding it hard, after ive done alot of circling and that she finally starts to bend and that but i was just wondering if anyone had any good exercises i could do and try?
i'll try and get some pics of her once i figure out how to add them
many thanks
alex

Is there more weight in one rein then the other?

I found if you act as if your doing shoulder in then it gets you to position yourself and the horse correctly so bending is easier for the horse.

It could be, you could be putting more weight into your right rein so when your on the left rein your outside hand may not be allowing sufficient bend.

There are so many things which can cause incorrect bend, the horse could be stiff, the horse may be unwilling to step underneath herself on that rein, you could be unbalanced etc

What I'm trying to say is it is virtually impossible to help you without seeing the horse. Perhaps get a good instructor? :)

ok well with what you said earlier it gives me something to work on
i have a very good instuctor but atm im stabling her at a riding school as they have an indoor school but after 7 weeks the livery is just redic so im moving her home this weekend coming so wil get a lesson hopefully soon after i move as he is really good

thanks
alex
