Many people say the right horse found them...

Do you think that's true, or are you a believer that you create your own fait, for example looking online at horses etc.

Your experiences :)?
 
I think it is true. I recently moved to the states and had to leave my lovely mare at homes as due to long term injury she was not allowed to fly (not an easy decision). I put an ad up on a local website in the states about a 3 weeks before I left the UK thinking I would not hear anything . A week or so later a lady contacted me about a young horse she had for sale. I spent weeks telling all my family and friends about how idols not afford her and she would never still be there. Cut a long story short a week after landing in the US I went to see her fell in love. After a 3 month loan I bought her on Friday. She is the most kind hearted, easy going young horse I have ever meet. The heart of a lion with great paces and a lovely jump.
I really do feel like she found me. Moving half way around the world has been so hard and I really couldn't of done it without her. I consider myself very lucky!!!
 
I moved to my currently yard when my best friend told me about a pony for loan, was meant to be a stop gap for a few months before I move to Canada for 6 months to live with my brother. I had always admired Belle and everybody knew I liked her, I was told she was for sale on Friday afternoon, Saturday morning I walked up to the yard owner and told her I wanted her! She maybe didn't pick me but I was drawn to her from the moment I got down there! 7 months later I don't regret not going traveling and spending my saving on her, I love her to bits and she is my horse of a life time! :')
 
I agree in the case of my current horse. I was on phone to my saddl fitter who happened to say he had a horse I would like. Cut a long story short I went to see him without seeing pics first. Bought him. Had him nearly 18 months. He's awesome. :D
 
Mine did :) went to ascot sales and didn't notice him in the catalog, saw him being trotted up for someone else as I walked by but didn't pay much attention. He came into the sales ring and I just had to have him, and nobody else wanted him. Best horse I've ever owned :)
 
Yes, was looking for a Connemara foal and ended up buying an unhandled yearling (14 months) filly I spotted in a field while viewing. She's probably 'mostly' a connie but there was just something about her. So far everything about her is right and I've only had her a couple of months. No regrets so far!
 
I really believe Ned was meant to find me. Or I was meant to find him!
He is the luckiest horse, cheating death on several occasions.
I loved all of yos horses, but it wasnt so with Ned. We did not get along! However, over time we got to know each other and now we couldn't be happier!
I recently found out how close he came to never being in my life. Yo will not have a horse who doesn't atleast stand for the measuring stick. His ability to stand still saved his life!!
 
Oh yes! My current horse was not for sale as he was so naughty, I guess he was in the naughty corner, where he had been for over a year. I saw him it was like instant recognition, it was like I had known him forever. It took some persuasion to get the professional owner to allow me to ride and then buy him. 2 1/2 years on, very little naughty behaviour at all, and he is my soul mate! We have hacked, BS BE BD, are hoping to Le Trec next year. Best of all I just like spending time with him, weather to ride or just hang out.
If I had followed convention I would never have bought the naughty horsie, but am glad I did. For some reason he just never scared me, I just felt at home.
They say you get one every lifetime!
 
yes haha i got Jake from the sales when I went to buy a rug, oops! Had a quick look at the horses on the online catalogue beforehand and liked the look of his advert. Saw him when I was there and thought he looked nice, then realised it was the horse I saw online. Then ended up bidding on him instead of a rug haha! He's been a difficult one with his bronking issue's but seems like he's been passed around a bit. Really settled in now and calmed down a lot, wouldn't be without him now :) can't believe I've had him 5 months already
 
Yeah'...'...my current horse was for sale for several months but I couldn't have him as I didn't have a spare stable'. His owner kept bumping into me at shows telling me he was still for sale....
I then lost a horse very suddenly and unexpectedly. I was devastated but couldn't get this little Arab out of my mind.
So I went to see him. Just looking, mind.
And obviously bought him and he is such a little gem, I love him to bits :)
 
I had been looking for a horse, been to see two or three, but still um-ing and ah-ing as to whether I should actually get another, or remain horseless. One day I was browsing the WHW site, and there she was! She was totally not what I would have looked at normally, but I kept going back to her profile and looking at her. Went to visit her the week after, two weeks after that she came home :) She is a saint. Funny, affectionate, and just beautiful. Love her to bits :)

When I visited Big Red at WHW, I couldn't get another horse I had seen out of my mind. Again, not something I would usually look at, and a stereotypical chestnut mare, but with added issues, both physical and mental. She came home to us a couple of months after Big. I can't say that Little is a saint, funny and affectionate (although she is beautiful :)), but she has her moments and I wouldn't be without her. She gave me a good kicking a week or so, leaving me on crutches, but we have reached an understanding :D She does adore OH though, follows him round, loves him to tickle her ears and scratch her poll, despite coming to us with the warning that she doesn't like her head touched.

So, long story short, while I was looking for a horse, I wasn't looking for a mare (let alone two!), definitely not one as big as Big, and definitely not one as mean as Little, but we found each other, and rub along OK most of the time :)
 
Lost my late mare in June 2012 and was absolutely devastated. It was the last straw after such bad luck for years. I said I'd never ever have another horse, and that I'd only consider another if it were a Spanish horse (impossible as I could not afford one) or my late mares foal (never for sale, and even if he ever was, it would be with a few 0's added at the end, so again impossible)

I stayed away from horses until December 2012 I was bored in my lunch hour at work and decided to nose at horses online, curious as to what was on the market as I had been away from horses for what seemed ages, I had no intention to get another- just something made me look. But I stumbled across a beautiful Andalusian. Heaven and Earth moved for me to have her- she'd been available since October which I was gobsmacked at! A stable came free at the stables I would only ever move to the day after I went to view her (the yard had been full for a year, but someone decided to do a runner to avoid paying their livery). Even though I had huge over-heads (vet bills) which meant I was left with £0, I still managed to gather enough (literally in 2 days) to get her ...she came home a week later and we haven't looked back since. We have achieved things I'd only ever dreamed of doing- dressage, jumping, xcountry, bringing home the ribbons every time we compete :)

I still can't quite believe how it all happened and I'm often told that we were just both meant to be :)

I think so :) Looked online at hundreds, tried out about thirty, and then my EDT was visiting for another horse and mentioned his friend was selling one I'd like. Has to be fate!!

I was a return rider after 20plus years and searching for a nice quiet grey gelding that I could hack out quietly. After a lot of dead ends including a failed vetting a friend forced me to go along alone to a local small dealers yard. I wasn't interested in anything she had as I was still reeling from the failed vetting, the dealer sighed and said reluctant, "well I have got this mare." That was when I first met Elz, she was scrawney and very sad. We tacked up and I struggled to get on which made us laugh. Riding her though was like coming home and she felt just right.

1 week later she was delivered banging and crashing away in the trailer and was completely mad! She'd been pushed from pillar to post and I could see why!

Five years on we're still together and she means the world to me. Oh and my little hack? Well she's a 16h beautiful dark bay grade B SJping Selle Francias AES,.......and loves to hack, amongst other things. Just love her.:)
 
I don't know whether the horses thought/think I was/am the right owner but something usually crops up.

Arab mare belonged to a boyfriend, broke down on the track, had colic op, both I which I nursed her through. My brother bought her for me as a birthday present - in foal, I had her for 12 years.

Another one, I wasn't looking, but a friend had been (as the knowledgable friend) to see a little arab and he was useless for the viewer, she phoned me, said, "I've found your next horse, get your arse over there NOW"

Yet another Arab was found in a feed lot, being bullied off food in the middle of winter, shocking condition - in foal. The horse I had gone to see didn't ring my bell, but I bought the Arab, still have her 7 years on.

I had been looking for years for a Paso that I could afford that wasn't brown, I never browse the on-line ads, but one day I did. There she was, just 10 minutes up the road, belonging to someone I had sold a horse to! I ummed and ahhed, and dithered, but she came home in the end.
 
The planets have to be lined up at the right time and place, call it fate, luck (good or bad) coincidence, whatever.

If, 25 years ago, I hadn't answered an ad for a work rider for Arabs, I hated arabs but was bored and horseless, my plans wouldn't have been sent off at a tangent, I wouldn't have had any of those horses or been living the life I do now.

I blame it ALL on that card in a window.
 
I would say that Merl found me, he was brought as a project (My friend went to buy some feed and brought him for me) and was only meant to stay for three months for me to get my confidence back on. Was a little ***** for the first people who tried him and generally dangerous on the ground. I decided to keep him for six months and had the pleasure of him being in my life for three years, he was my perfect horse. Sadly I had to have him PTS in April due to arthritis aged 12 and not an hour goes by when I don't miss him even though I still have my other two.
 
I do absolutely believe that my mare was sent to find me. I wasn't looking to buy and she was everything I always said I wouldn't have. I bought the most charismatic, intelligent, exasperating, lovely natured fruitcake in the world. In return she got a long life and knew that at last she was loved. It cost me over £40K to control her medical problems and I am quite sure that if she hadn't come to me, she would have been PTS by the age of 12 instead of rising 30. I used to joke with the vet that he spent all his time trying to get me to have her put down and buy another but (sadly) she outlived him.
 
yep. I didn't even mean to get him but my beloved tb was was broken from day one (unbeknownst until the meds wore off!) and I couldn't ride or do anyting and vets bills pretty much emptied my bank balance. I spotted this really honest advert for a 16 yo who wouldn't pass a vetting, had quite a few quirks but 'don't discount him' kind of thing. His ad kept popping up and I messaged the owner found out they were only 40mins away (I didn't like chestnuts and had one problem horse so no way i'd buy another).. tried him and from the moment I hopped on I just knew, I don't think I stopped smiling..went home to (think about it) rang his owner that night and said I'd be back in 3 days to collect him..paid peanuts for him and all his tack and rugs. That was 14 months ago and (having lost my other boy in April) the ginger ninja has got me through marriage break ups, work stress, losing my other lad as well as taken me through my first ever xc..dressage..ODE..you name it we've done it..I went on a course where I was away mon-fri for 10 weeks so I found some grazing boxed him up and took him up and down with me every week. He is a star..quirky..and not everyones cup of tea..and we have our moments but you know when you just 'click' with a horse..I'd be lost without him..
 
mine both found me as such. my boy is an ex-racer, my dad actually part owned since 1 years old. he got injured at 7 so had to retire from racing, had a year in a field and 3 months retraining, then was given to me as my first horse (after years of lessons of course). he is sweet, like a donkey when he needs to be, even a 5yo gets led on him, my baby!. if he had not been injured when he was i would have never got him. second horse got abandoned at my old yard when i was not very well, she was crazy at the time but i gained her trust and re-backed her, fell in love and luckily managed to buy her when we got in touch with her original owner (she was abandoned while on loan). so didn't look for either of mine, just found them
 
I wouldn't say found, but I would say Molly chose me as I was the 12th person to view her and she cantered down the hill to me when I went in her field to view. That and seeing my handling of here is what made her previous owner sell her to me. All previous buyers had wanted her but her old owner turned them all down as she said Molly just didn't take to any of them but she was all over me :-) Doesn't hurt to write that now I know I am keeping her :-)
 
Yes I think fate played a big part in how I got my boy.

I went to a dealers, specialising in youngsters straight over from Ireland. Fallon was the first horse I saw when we drove into the yard and he caught my eye. I saw a number of horses loose schooled and though he was nice, he didn't move or jump as impressively as some of the others.

So I didn't ride him. I sat on 3 others, was really torn between them but eventually chose one and brought him home. Very quickly discovered that the one I took home had a very nasty habit of dropping his shoulder and spinning to chuck you on the floor - not what I wanted to deal with, so I took him back to the dealer a week after I got him. Both the other horses I'd liked had already been sold, and in fact there weren't many left from the last shipment. But Fallon was there. So I rode him, and actually really liked him. And he came home with me the same day!

And he's actually spot on for me. He's a cracking jumper, bold, scopey, smart - sweet tempered and cuddly in the stable, lovely to handle and generally takes everything I ask of him in his stride. He's not at all easy in lots of ways, but he has never deliberately tried to throw me off or hurt me.

I do believe fate played a big hand in bringing him to me after I overlooked him first time around - he's a far nicer and better quality horse than the first one I brought home, and if he hadn't turned out to be a little **** then I'd never have had the opportunity to try F.
 
I spent nine months schlepping up and down the country horse shopping last year - I saw nine, rang up about dozens and spent hours each week online searching ads. In desperation I got friends to put Wanted ads up on notice boards when they went out competing and the only call that resulted from them was for a Welsh D only an hour away - but that was only available to loan.

I knew within 2mins of sitting on him that we were right for each other - and eventually the loan turned into a sale. We've had a few medical hiccups, but he's talented, very bright, kind, loves work, can turn his hoof to anything and last Sunday he stood still while a helicopter unexpectedly whizzed past less than 50ft above us on open moorland.

I found my 'perfect scenario' horse shopping list the other day and compared him to it. He scored 9.5/10 :)
