Hey guys, I know we can ride on bridleways, but are we allowed on RUPPS, Byways, Permissive Byways, Restricted Byways? (can anyone think of any others i may have missed? :p) I know Footpaths are out of bounds, we are so short of offroad hacking in my area, i want to make sure im maximising where i can ride! Thanks!

I think were allowd to ride on byways but i could be wrong we used to at my old yard! Although someone who knows more about it feel free to correct me!!!:)

Yes, you can ride on all those (although the permissive paths you need to check each one individually).

RUPPs are Road Used as Public Path - but these are being reclassified, usually as restricted byways. Byways are open to all traffic, Restricted byways are only open to non-motorised traffic, permissive paths - it depends on what the landowner allows, and the sign should make that clear.

My understanding was (having spoken to the local council rights of way peeps) that you can also ride (and carriage-drive) on footpaths WITH the landowners' permission, providing you don't trash the path for walkers. Can ride and drive on a restricted byways too. Have a look on an OS map of your area, and also see if there are any TROT routes locally (but you do have to pay for those!)
