highly contagious, be v careful, all horses around, you and family will get it so read up on prevention ie boiling towels, clothes with spurs being kept separate etc.

what shampoo do i need

read the link that is in the thread above - you'll need your vet to diagnose it. if you really do have it, then it spreads like wildfire through the herd and is a real pain in the arse.

The vet will give you all the treatment you need.

This is really contaigous - you can catch it too. Keep him isolated untill its cleared up.

i was told by the people that own my yard to always be on the look out for this as they have cattle and it spreads to them. they also said that it can live in wood for a number of years.

Be very careful I caught this from a horse and ended up with a horrible thing on my leg which was itchy , and I passed it on to a work colleague- god knows how!
Had to get steriod cream to get rid of it!

Your vet will give you a shampoo for it.

My mare has just had it after catching it from the cattle in her field. I used canesten anti-fungal cream and it completely cleared in just over a week. I used tea tree shampoo to wash my hands after handling her and she didn't pass the infection onto my sisters horse. Its not the end of the world, once they've had it they won't get it again.
