Does anyone have any experience of this?

I have an 8yr old cob mare, history is she came over from Ireland around 6yrs old where she was brought by a friend. Not long after her arriving turned out she was in foal, mare had two years off due to foal and owner not having confidence to get back on her.

Last October I took her on due to her owners Ill health and brought her back into work slowly, we've mainly hacked out, done a sponsored ride, two dressage tests and that's been it.

Anyway couple of weeks ago she felt off on her hind left. Couldn't pin point it, just that she felt off'ish in trot behind, even on a straight line. Booked my chiropractor to come out as suspected she'd just put something out when she had a mad moment in the field few days previous. Saddler came out on the 21st to reflock saddle and said when I was riding her in walk she was dropping her hind leg from the pelvis. Wasn't too worried as had chiropractor coming the following morning.

Now, nothing was found by my chiropractor, mare was lovely and supple and free with no signs of anything! Then we moved onto the legs, she has solid lumps on her hind left pastern/fetlock areas, with slight heat but no swelling. Had my farrier out on the 23rd to check the foot, nothing there, no signs of side bone.

So anyway my chiropractor is concerned about possible ringbone. I trust her 110% so I'm not doubting her concerns. I've already contacted my vets, but unfortantly missed my call back from a vet so am returning the call Monday to talk over opinions.

Now I know nothing about ringbone or what it would mean for my mares further? When I speak to my vet ok Monday I'm going to say that I want X-rays etc done to see if anything is going on.

Am I right to want to look into this now, when there's no real major things that point to something big being wrong. It's just I know my horse doesn't feel right to ride, including hacking out in walk only. Or should I just wait and see what happens when I start riding again once I'm feeling better?

I want what's best for her, I think if I have things looked into now and something is there we can get a heads start on changing her management to help her. I know if it is something like ringbone there is no cure but I can change things now to lesson it getting worse sooner then I'd like. Right?

I think I just want people's opinions on if I am crazy to want xrays etc done now when there's so little to go on.

If she's "dropping her hind leg from the pelvis" and "my horse doesn't feel right to ride, including hacking out in walk only"... she's lame! She requires a lameness work up by a vet to establish what's troubling her.

Suggest you have the vet check her over as you don't get ringbone in the fetlock joint. You may have hard windfalls. However I would be considering an abscess brewing

You find ringbone where the long Pastern bone joins the short Pastern bone (high ringbone) or between the short Pastern bone and the pedal bone (low ringbone)

I have a young mare with ringbone in one fore fetlock. It was active and she was unsound so she is now in foal . The ringbone now feels inactive and I am praying the joint will fuse so that she will be sound to ride again after the foal is weaned. I have my young mare on turmeric oil and pepper ( I suggest if you are interested that you join the turmeric user group on Facebook for advice) and this has definitely helped being a strong anti oxidant.
