If you have a severe infection Fulcin (Griseofulvin) from the vet fed as a powder in the feed for a few days will kill it off.

It will go by itself, which I wish I had known before I called the vet out.... £140 that one cost me!

Daktarin cream for athletes foot. I was given it by the GP when I caught it from my dog, who got it from a hedgehog.

but won't it come back if not treated because of rugs etc. ?
I have disinfected my brushes rugs etc. but its too cold for no rugs so how do i go about making sure it clears up ?

Maybe a good spray with athletes foot spray will do the trick but I'd be getting a different rugs for them and sending them off to be washed.

You will need to wash all rugs and any tack and head collars will need to be disinfected. It does spread very easily and lives in wood for years. You will need to be aware of gates, wooden stables etc they will all need disinfecting. If you have a local farmer try speaking to him as he will know the best thing to put on the wood. As others have said Canestan is good or any anti fungal cream should work.

Hang male holly in a corner of your stable or barn and you won't get ringworm. Farmers swear by it!

Iodine tincture sounds like the most effective way to deal with it given your situation. And it's much cheaper than all the other powders and creams. It will impregnate the rugs as well so no need to continually wash them. If it were warm I'd suggest Imaverol but that's like a shampoo so not suitable at this time of year. Ringworm doesn't live for very long so don't worry too much about it, but do be careful because you can catch it too!

Thanks everyone, I have disinfected all rugs, headcollars etc. and rubbed the affected areas with a big dollop of ladies thrush cream.
Does it take a long time to go away ? Do the floors need disinfecting too ? I have just washed down the scratchy bits my horse rubs himself on in the stable with disinfectant.
