My mare has two round bald patches on her tail, about a centimetre in diameter. She itches them a bit but not a huge amount. They went flakey before the hair fell out, is it safe to say she has ringworm? They are a perfect circle. I have just been diagnosed with it so I'm pretty certain...

She has also started destroying the hair beyond her bridle path and it is starting to look like one giant bridle path! She doesn't have any scabs though, she is just generally itchy. As she is prone to mites I will treat her again (so frustrating) but I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a wash for the more sensitive types?! My farrier said that coloured cobs seem to always get them.

Should I wash her all over with an anti fungal wash to be safe or just treat the infected areas?

I really wish there was a magic potion that got rid of mites, fungal/bacterial infections and general itchiness all in one, I am sick of washing her constantly!! Anyone got any plan of action for me that won't break the bank? She is only rugged at night if its cold.

Definately give her a good wash with Nizoral - you may not need to wash her all over but when you wash the affected areas go at least a foot wider.

My mare goes through itchy times where she will rub her tail on anything - the Nizoral has it under control within hours.

If it's fungal then the Nizoral will sort it out. Must be a bit late in the year for midges?

Great thanks a million, I'll try that asap!!
