Before I call my vet out unecessarily, has anyone ever seen ringworm that doesn't look like ringworm???? My horse has a classic looking patch of raised hair on his flanks but justthe one patch and there is no hair loss or scaling. I have been treating with a prescribed antifungal shampoo for the past 5 days now and all the hair remains intact but its a classic circular raised shape with a dent in the middle. But.....under his girth he has about 5 or six lumps which have suddently appeared but they are not the same as the one on his back. They feel more like hard bumps witha head, more like a fly bite, but he's never had them here before. Does this sound like ringworm? Damn damn damn - still so many shows to do......

Without seeing it is difficult to say but sounds similar to what my horse had a few months back...I thought they were fly bites but the vet confirmed it was ringworm. She gave me some antifungal lotion to put on neat out of the bottle and it went in a matter of a week.

The bumps under the girth could be sweat rash. The lumps are about cm diameter max with a hard scab on top and look like insect bites. My horse has had this this year and vet had a look last week. The sweat pores have opened up and dirt has got in. Vet said to use hibiscrub and i now make sure all sweat is washed off and girth cleaned daily.

We had ringworm last winter and it looked like nothing I'd seen previously.
They were raised bumps like nettle rash which after ten days lost the hair and started to appear in their dozens..
If it isn't ringworm and I suspect it may be, what about warble larvae, or do they only appear in Spring? (never seen one so don't know)

HH, Warbles generally appear on the back, said to be a spring thing but I know of someone who had one this time last year.
Id take a guess at allergic reaction to fly bites, for some reason this is very common this year (I have had 3 exactly as you describe).
Get the vet for a couple days of dexadreson and they should disappear.
