Hey,

2 horses at my yard have been found to have ringworm! I no it’s very easily spread as my pony caught it not last year but the year before.

Is there anyway to prevent my pony catching it again? The good side is mares and geldings are separate and so far only 2 geldings have been found with it and secondly amey isn’t stabled near them, I’m hoping this is enough to prevent it happening but with my luck I’m not counting on it:o

Are there any other ways to prevent her catching it or is separation and not touching anything they have the best way?

I also heard that once a horse has had ringworm once there unlikely to get it again but I'm not really sure I believe that!

As far as im aware, the chances of him getting it again are very very unlikley although dont think impossible.

Just keep him away from the infected horses, dont use any of their stuff and disinfect anything that you think may have been used on them.

Hopefully the infected horses will have been isolated and the owners of them should be aware of 'barrier nursing' to reduce the spread. My mare had it once, the yard was americal barn with about 50 horses, only my mare and another got it, both were isolated and it never spread due to good husbandry and handling of it.

Be careful yourself too, both Bro and I had ringworm when we were children, caught from cattle- my Bro was covered in it :-0

Yes forgot that bit, I got it from my mare too, thankfully only 1 small patch on my hand, had to keep it covered to prevent spread, I felt like micheal jackson wearing 1 glove!!! lol!!

i caught it last time amey had it :o

i think the horses have now been isolated and i spoke to one of the owners this afternoon (from a distance) and she said she would make sure she disinfected everything to make sure there is no spread. i havent spoken to the other one i only hope she does the same!

i just dont want to go through that again she was absolutly covered last time the poor mite.

What treatment did you have out of interest? I was wrapped in vinegar(!) and sent to school, but was promptly sent home again!
