My friend has lent me her clippers but told me they were used last winter (at least 6 months ago) on a horse with suspected ringworm. Can my horse still catch this infection. I have just wiped the blades, lead and handset over with dettol and apparently the person who used them afterwards cleaned them with antibac. But I haven't cleaned the brush or case it has come in. Should I be worried? I am planning on giving the vet a quick call tomorrow.

You need to spray them with something thats anti fungal. Ringworm is a fungus not a bacteria so regular anti bac won't kill it.

I can't remember how long ringworm lives for. I know it's a long time compared to other diseases.

When you have finished clipping your horse get about half a bucket of hot water and add a large bottle of vinegar and wash him down with a hot cloth dunked in the solution.

Vinegar will kill ringworm faster than anything else.

Ringworm spores can live for years.

Take apart and clean thoroughly with an anti fungal agent - contact your local vet they will be able to tell you what they use on their clippers.

Be careful using anything that cannot evaporate as you don't want to get moisture into the works.
