Rio Olympics, pregnant women and microcephaly in newborns.

Unfortunately, it's quite difficult to protect yourself against the mosquito that carries Zika, it attacks during the day unlike the malaria carrying one. My daughter got dengue last summer whilst in SE Asia, as a final year med student, she understands the risks and she's very careful and as well as taking anti malaria drugs when in a malaria hot spot, she used nets, sprays etc but she still got bitten. I'm afraid it's not just worth the risk if you are pregnant or trying to conceive. It's so sad isn't it? Countries that really need a boost from tourism keep getting knocked back and the poorest people always are the most affected. However, with the threat of this disease moving towards the USA, at least there will be some real action on trying to find a vaccine.
 
We were all told initially that it would not come to Europe. It seems that now we are all at risk and in the USA a partner of someone who visited South America is now infected via sexual transmission. Seriously what about the Olympics?
 
It's not great, dont know what can be done for the Olympics - nothing really, I guess women just have to risk it. Has anyone found out how long it stays in your system if you did get the virus (as in, when would it be ok to get pregnant after)?

Having only recently decided on Puerto Rico for our wedding, we've had to put all planning on hold :( They've only had 1 case there so far but still.
 
At least the Olympics are in Winter in Rio and mosquitoes are fairly rare. Also the Brazilians are busting a gut to erradicate the breading grounds. A good repellent should help. I've booked and certainly not going to miss this - although not likely to get pregnant!;)

On a related issue does anyone know how to go about getting tickets for the equestrian events. The Cosport UK site seems to be all sold out. Is there somewhere better to post this question?
