On friday morning I had my old mare Angel pts, her sweet itch had gotten worse.Bought her 12 years ago not realising she had the condition, not told by the owner, she didn't help herself much as she didn't like vets farriers, couldn't do her teeth with out 2 vets to sedate bigtime and you couldn't go anywhere near her with any lotions. But this summer I thought I'd cracked it,she was rugged up bigtime and bought some capsules from Nation sweetitch center, she was doing well until travellers boys turned up with their lurchers and ferrits and had her and my other mare galloping about getting her stressed out, so brought them in but her itching got really bad,she stressed and me not far behind trying to do something,of the 12 years I'd owned her I can say I'd only ridden her for about 6 weeks. Feeling really crap at the moment.

Ah EB, I am sorry you lost your girl. Sweet Itch can be so debilitating can't it. As long as you know you did the right thing then I am sure she is thanking you for it.

My condolences x

Echo Brave so so sorry to hear that you finally lost the battle. I think she was a lucky girl to have 12 years with such a great owner, but that probably doesn't help right now. RIP to a loved horse.

Sorry to hear this, but you did all you could. You gave her 12 years that nobody else probably would have and you should be proud that you did so. You should also console yourself that you knew what you had to do at the right time.

What a brave decesion you made. Sweet Itch can make some horses life a complete misery and alot of people dont think its that bad or because they think its only itching rather than something like lameness dont make the right choice as you have. i totally congratulate you on your choice and although you probaly feel rubbish right now and this proably means nothing to you. Sorry for your loss.

So sorry for your loss, sweetitch can be so very hard to manage. You have obviously looked after Angel far better than her previous owners did and eventually made the only possible last decision for her. It is never an easy decision, even when it's the obvious one.
RIP

This, absolutely! I am so sorry for your loss and I know at this moment it will be of very little comfort but, in time, when you can look back, you will know that you made such a brave decision for your girl. She will no longer be in pain and discomfort with this horrible, horrible condition. I only hope that if/when ever I have to make 'the' decision I am brave enough to make it rather than dragging it out to make myself feel better.
