and a very lucky escape for the crane driver who must be thanking his lucky stars that his young sons didn't wake him up. So very sad for the families and friends impacted by this unexpected tragedy.
I was not impressed that I had to have a wretched advert selling me listerine before I could hear the report. I appreciate thats how money is made, just felt it was pretty poor taste under the circumstances. This is reporting someones tragic death.
This was a awful incident in which two people died and many more injured and has posed many questions - many people are now searching for answers. However; there has been a rapid move to get something out in writing which is in the link for those really interested - it's an exact statement of the fact - at the moment:-
For those that just want an synopsis - it doesn't look good for the pilot! Quite besides being instantly dead ( and pilots virtually always being blamed for crashes ) he will be (IMHO) be blamed hands down for this one. He flew in thick fog to a destination he knew to be fogged in - couldn't land so planned to return to base, on the way he was TEXTING and PHONING while flying single pilot across the London Control Zone - though still in fog he learns that Battersea heliport is open and plans a diversion but either forgets the position of the crane or is unaware of his exact position and manages to hit it square on so hard his machine cuts the jib in two sections.
Even other helicopter pilots ( I am not well enough qualified ) are listing no-noes on other sites.
