A wonderful sweet little black mare, arrived on my yard two months ago, along with her equally sweet, dedicated and wonderful owner.
Never passing by a horse in distress, her life has been full of heartache by rescuing horses that other people have just walked away from.
B was found in a dealers yard, hidden around the back of the stables out of public viewing, how many people turned a blind eye to her suffering, walked passed with never a glance back a horse does not get in that state overnight, try months of starving, she quickly bought the mare and took her home. Skin and bone, with a mouth that could not shut due to her upper teeth being dug into her lower jaw, she set about getting the dentist straight away, to help this poor dignified mare. Slowly but surely B started to responded, managing to eat her feed and slowly gaining weight.
She came on this forum time and time again to double check what she was doing was right (and shame on the people that sent her nasty PMs telling her if she had to ask she shouldnt have a horse!!), she doubled checked and tripled checked what she was doing was for the best, and B was transforming into a strong willed, happy horse with her own personality.
Sadly, she had an attack of colic just before christmas, which showed she had a major heart mumour and her age to be estimated in the high 30s minimum. B recovered well, and the plan was to give her a lovely summer on grass. Sadly this was not meant to be, on Monday she suffered a mild colic attack again, not incurable but the look in her eyes said for the first time she had had enought, so with carrots in her mouth being led to the field that she loved to spend time in with her best friend, Bs mum made the heart breaking decision to let her be young again.
RIP Sweet B, at least you left this world knowing humans arent all bad and were loved in your last few months, and the biggest hugs to Bsmum, who time and time again never turns a blind eye to these horses in need, and suffers the heartache of loving them for such a short time. With all the talk of France, there are too many rescue cases in the UK that need our help, there needs to be a lot more Bsmum in the world, who quietly do there bit for horse welfare with no gain to themselves but just for the pure love of these wonderful horses we have in our lives.
I also find it highly sad that she does not want her real username used due to the nasty PMs she has received off of people when she only wanted to do her 110% best for this lovely mare.
RIP sweet B and hugs to your mum who is devastated.
