Dont post very often just wanted to write it all down.
I lost my beloved pony tonight
He was 23 3/4 and was suffering from liver failure. Vet came down thursday to do a blood test and said he was on that stage of liver failure just 20% of his liver functioning.
He was still very well in himself barring being very thin and ocassional slipping.
This morning he was fine went out to graze with his friend. Saw him at lunchtime and he was a bit bargy but enjoyed his carrots.
Brought him in tonight and he walked in ok, but wouldnt eat dinner or hay, and just rested his head over the door, tried to move him but he was staggering a bit, so stayed with him for a while and he wouldnt eat no matter how hard I tried to tempt him. Called vet. By the time he came down baldy seemed to have a bit of laboured breathing and was still very unsteady on his feet. Vet tested heart rate and said was very high and possible slight murmur which he has never had before. We could have waited but decided it was the right thing to do as he would have carried on downhill and didnt want to see him get worse. If he wasnt going to eat that is enough for him, he lived to eat
He went by injection, so very quick and so very fast but so very dignified, the vet said faster than he thought so he must have had enough I cant thank my vet enough for giving him a peaceful ending.
I have had him for 17 years but known him since he was 2, he was the best pony anyone could ask for and I miss him so much already.
What I wouldnt do for one last furry hug and another whinny as I bring him his breakfast. I love you Baldrick you were the best.
