Don't know if anyone knew him in the UK...

Beautiful and talented SJ horse. He and his rider Gilles Bertran de Balanda (current French SJ team leader) had an amazing track record in international GP Showping. Crocus had done his last lap of honor last year at La Baule Super League before retiring for good.
Yesterday morning (first day of La Baule 08 what a coincidence), his mum/owner found him lying down and looking poorly in his stall... Time to grab her phone, she heard this strange moaning sound from him and he was gone

You haven't had much time to enjoy your retired life, hope you have many happy gallops wherever you are now...RIP beautiful boy.

The news of his death should be officially announced this weekend at La Baule Super League where Crocus had been successful many times.
His mum/owner as well as rider must be devastated as she had bought him at 6 months old and had wanted Gilles B de B to be his one and only jockey throughout his SJ career.

(Guess Crocus wasn't known at all in the UK... In Ireland maybe where he won Dublin one year: 2003 or 4 ? not sure though...)

As I was about to bring his semen to the UK next year, I am gutted on a number of levels.

He never got the coverage that he deserved, and ask anyone to name the four from 2002 in Jerez, and they always respond Diamant de Semilly, Dollar de la Pierre, Dollar du Mûrier, and...........................................

He only covered 10-15 mares a year, so will only have limited influence on breeding. Big shame, super horse.
