A HORRIFIED walker found a dog which had been shot dead and buried in the ground on Downley Common after following a trail of blood.

The RSPCA has now launched an investigation after the gruesome discovery which was made by dog walker Sandra Swift on Tuesday.

The dog, believed to be a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, had recently given birth before being slayed and buried in a shallow grave.

Mrs Swift said: "I’m outraged someone has done this where people walk, it’s disturbing and disgusting.

How awful! The lead being tied to a tree sounds like the poor dog was tied up when whatever happened took place. Disgusting and I bet the people who did it are not found

Poor Poor dog and you can only speculate that as she had recently given births her pups met a similar fate.

I hope who ever did this is found and they are never allowed to own a dog again.

It used to be said that Britain was a nation of animal lovers - what utter tosh - you only have to read stories like this and see the rescue centres brimming with abandoned pets, horses, cats, dogs. We have become such an irresponsible society in general - easy come, easy go - get a pup - oh bored with that, kick it out. It really appalls me that hearing people's tales of woe - taking on pets they cannot afford to maintain and expecting rescue charities to pick up the pieces. Some low life dumped 3 domestic rabbits up my lane a few months back - I caught and homed them. How could they be so cruel?
I used to despise the way animals are treated in some third world and other countries, but frankly at least the people are honest and upfront not wanting to keep animals as 'pets' and have them mainly to earn a living not as some status or other symbol which they will tire of and chuck out like we Brits do everyday
