My dad is currently working on designing a plant in Kazakstan. The location has lots of wild dogs, all of which are tame and friendly. Each complex has its own pack of dogs which they take care of. The workers work alternative 4 week shifts and they swap duties of feeding, watering and playing with the dogs when the other comes back to England for their 4 weeks off.

My dads complex has named all their dogs by their characteristics or attitudes and his favourites were Mutley and White Socks. There were many other sweet and lovely dogs. They were living their life happily, free, well fed and together.

They were ALL culled on Friday/Saturday evening. The workers weren't greeted off the buses by any dogs - no wagging tails, no licks. I understand stray dogs in other countries are a massive problem and I knew when the plant was functional it was likely to end in tears - but its wasn't even done in a humane way, just shot at until they fell.

I just wanted to share this story just so they know how much they were loved when they were alive and tears have been shed for them in their death. My dad cared, I cared, the other workers cared, their families all cared - waiting to hear what the mutts had been getting up to over the last month.

I just feel so sad. I had been trying to contact charities in Kazakstan to help neuter, vaccinate and relocate the dogs but I was too late :( Im just grateful they had a good life - were well fed and watered, had freedom and always had someone waiting to give the a stroke and a rub.

RIP Mutley and White Socks I will miss hearing about your adventures and Im sorry your pups didn't have a chance to find a loving home.

Thats very sad but at least they did get to experience some human kindness.

I know in a lot of these places Rabies is a real threat and the street dogs are regularly rounded up and pts.

That's such a sad story.

Yes, the world is over populated with many kinds of animals including humans but we always think we have the "right" to get rid of them. It is almost always our fault that there are too many.

So sad :(

How sad, but at least for a short while they were cared for. I read a book about a soldier in Afghanistan who cared for stray dogs out there and actually brought 2 or 3 back to the UK, but so many he was unable to help.

RIP Mutley and White Socks.

Dogs don't know about beginnings, and they don't speculate on matters that occurred before their time. Dogs also don't know — or at least don't accept — the concept of death. With no concept of beginnings or endings dogs probably don't know that for people having a dog as a life companion provides a streak of light between two eternities of darkness.

Mutley and White Socks had a brief streak of light, thanks to your dad and his fellow workers.
