After Rubi had babies we separated ferrets into different hutches which they didnt like....
Few days ago OH didnt latch Maxi's hutch properly in the evening and he (Max, not OH) performed Shawshank Redemption. Which probably happened about 30 min after we left and I hadnt had a look until next midday.
I had a hope that he would stay put as we have got plenty of ratties and bunnies around and went every so often calling and clapping (they are trained to come out for it) but he has got a taste of freedom...
On saturday, on a way to the town, I thought I saw him lying in the middle of a central reservation of dual carriageway...
Didnt insist much that day as a) didnt want to upset daughter and b) OH is being typical male. Spent horrible day catching myself looking towards the way... its about 2 field widths flat... and night...thinking how to check if it is or it isnt...and what to do if...
This morning I just could not bear it... OH is off to work, daughter is locked in the house.... Drove one way and thought "its a cat...", couldnt stop...then thought "foock it..." look from other way and park bloody anywhere.....
I know, I am a silly cow leaping across dual carriageway to have a look, then back to pick up a (ready) rug and a heavy duty bag from the boot (my eyes never fail but I just hoped...).... but I could not leave him lying there, disintegrating and me driving past and watching this...
Why the heck he decided to go that way, not other where he could have a chance at least not being hit by a car?!
WHY?!!!BLOODY WHY??!!
I know he is only a ferret but we are responsible for whom we are tamed...
I buried my beautiful albino 2kg lion mane hob just outside our garden in a view of a hutch and his babies and Rubi was throwing hissy fit in exactly the same time....RIP Maxi...run free darling.
