My best friends 28yr old section d mare Poppy, was put to sleep last night.
Although she never belonged to me, she was the one who taught me to ride when I was tiny, she took us to camp, was a fantastic competitive driving pony, was a complete angel with littluns & an absolute character when she knew she had someone on her back who knew what they were doing!
You could drop your reins in the middle of a field of cows & she would take it on herself to herd them all up - yet she had never been taught or asked to!
She even came out of retirement 5 years ago to take me to the church on my wedding day. She loved every minute of it!
Sadly she was struck down with crippling laminitis in her back feet a month or so ago, and never recovered.

She had never suffered before & last night the time came for her to be pain free again. It was definately the right choice, but she was one of those ponies you just think will live forever. Such a tough cookie. And the one we grew up with.
RIP beautiful girlie. You will never be forgotten.
