I had my dear companion pony put down today about 5pm, For those who have not seen what happened see http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=485035

I know it was the right thing to do but its still Heart breaking

big hugs to you mate, and dont u be sitting there dwelling you done the right thing and he had a lovely last hour stuffing grass and apples,.
 
I didn't see your original thread, so have just read it now. I quite understand how you felt. I lost a Shire because a vet from a local equine specialist practice did almost exactly the same thing. When the farrier arrived he went mad, asking why the horse was out.
It is always a difficult decision to make but you obviously made it in the pony's best interests.
RIP Rufus, beautiful boy!
 
I'v only just read your other thread too. You did the right and kindest thing by your little man. (((((((((((Huggs to you all))))))))))) including Donna! Wasn't he such a gorgeous little pony! Rip Rufus x x

O bless you. What a horrid thing from start to end. You obviously cared about him and did the right thing by him but it's still hideous for you. RIP Rufus.

What a lovely little chap. Don't feel bad about your decision. It was the right one, and I know how awful it feels, believe me I do, but you did the kindest thing for him, and no-one would blame you, its never an easy decision to make. My thoughts are with you at this very difficult time for you.

Well the hunt collected him this morning (I know not everyones choice so please don’t make this any harder that it already is). Donna was getting really stress in the stable which was upsetting the filly next door so I have given her a few ACP’S and let them both out in the field. Donna wont leave the spot where he lay unless the fill comes any closer than 100yards then she chases her away.
