Some of you may remember my post a couple of months ago about the cob in my village who i look after a couple of days a week dying very suddenly and unexpectedly, leaving her aged fieldmate Tiff very lonely.
Replacement cob Murphy arrived very soon after, and settled in very well. However, although she didn't lose much condition etc, Tiff lost her 'spark'- maybe not helped by the fact that Murph is quite young, very confident, sometimes bordering on bossy- not the best ever companion for a slightly footsore old lady. But they got on fine.
Got down to the field to feed today, and found a pony from the local riding school in as a temporary companion to Murph, and no Tiff. She died over the weekend.
She was very old, and when i told my mum, she said that Tiff's owner had actually told her this summer she didn't think Tiff would last without her best mate once it got a little colder, and not to tell me as i would worry but not be able to do anything. (she's quite right, i would have done!)
I just hope she went peacefully and happily.
Will try and find a photo. RIP Tiff.
