RIP Tony Nicklinson

I'm happy for him, he's battled for this for so long and he's now at peace. It's just a shame he wasn't allowed a dignified death.
Rest in Peace x

The law is an ass!!
Animals have more rights regarding death than humans!!

Actually they don't have many rights at all. Humans have rights to decide what is in their best interests. The animals get no say in it!

I felt very sorry for Tony Nicklinson and wouldn't wish anyone to have to continue living on such circumstances when they didn't want to. I would probably legalise assisted suicide. However I can also see that changing the law to allow people to kill others is a very difficult and grey area and subject to potential abuse.

Agree with BK - this is a huge issue which needs very careful thought. The worst laws are made when reacting to a situation, rather than being brought in after due consultation.
Really feel for his family, they must be both relieved & grieving at the same time.

Exactly. So why can't humans decide when it is in their OWN best interest to be able to go. We also, get no say in it. At least the animals are allowed a merciful death.

The only thing he did that I disagree with was his route to change the law. Elected, accountable parliament must decide this matter, not appointed, unaccountable judges.

I heard his reaction to the rejection of his appeal on the radio and it moved me to tears. So glad he's at peace now.

I wish things could be considered on a case by case basis rather than a blanket approach, although understand the implications of a legal precedent being set.
