BBC, NFU Countryside and Direct Gov are trying to create awareness of risks to the countryside of Flying Chinese Lanterns.
When they land, the lanterns (made from fine metal or bamboo) can be eaten by cattle/baled into hay/haylage or possibly set fire to crops or tinder dry moorland/forest. Sightings over the sea can result in Coastguard being called as they can look like distress flares.

Please circulate this info as widely as possible
Thank you

There is a poll on homepage of NFU Countryside should these lanterns be banned

If we are a 'green' country then why are lanterns and balloons allowed to be released en mass to fall and litter wherever they land?

Have been very paranoid about barns setting on fire by the arsonist lanterns

Worse still you can buy them in 99p stores argghhh
