Pony been very upset grooming/ touching around flanks and back of belly over past week . Before calling vet with view to scoping thought I'd dry one of the above first. Both seem to have good reviews and people seem to have tried with similar probs to us. It seems one is for hind gut and other for for and hind gut.

Should I try the hind gut first or go with the joint one (which is double price)

Just to add nothings really changed apart from upping his hay . He's only fed half cup of simply complete per day

Thanks in advance

I have one who lives on Equishure for hind gut issues. If you think he has ulcers then I would go for the RiteTrac or even Feedmarks Ulcer Calm, which I think is now called Gastic Comfort, as Equishure is specifically for hind gut acidosis.

I had 2 horses investigated for weight loss last year - one came right on Ulcer Calm, the other didnt. He scoped clear for ulcers and was found to have hind gut inflammation. He is massively improved on Equishure. I gave all 3 of mine Equishure to start with and it made no difference at all to the other 2. I also had to change my management a little.

Personally, knowing what I do now, I'd just scope/investigate, and go from there.

RiteTrac targets both stomach and hindgut ulcers because it contains consists of both the Equishure plus other additional ingredients formulated to protect the stomach.

Equishure only targets the hindgut ulcers.

Without scoping, you won't know the severity of the stomach ulcers, but I suppose if you notice a marked improvement whilst using Ritetrac, it's safe to say he's probably got ulcers.

In my experience, many horses diagnosed with gastric ulcers are also suffering from hindgut ulcers too. There's a simple test your vet can do which involves testing the PH in a dung sample.

Please take advice from your vet regarding ulcers. They are a serious and very painful condition.
