Does anyone know where I can get some clean road/tarmac plainings from in Sussex (yard near Ditchling)? I can't have a huge lorry full of the stuff due to access/turning problems to yard but a load on a small tipping truck/trailer would be ok. Any ideas?

Are there any road works being done nearby?? It's often worth a quick chat with the site manager

No there isn't any road works near by - I went down this route about 20 years ago and the driver wasn't very happy with me - the hedging scratched his cab! Now all the hedging has matured after 20 years.

I got mine from a company called osmans think they were in yellow pages or thomson local, they are based in tonbridge and delivered to me in east sussex.

Yes we have them in gateways and it works really well. They're best put down in the summer and make sure you cover a bigger area than you think. They bed down really quickly and make a good firm (non muddy!) surface.

I think you will find it hard to get hold of them for a freebe. You need all correct permits and permissions in place. Ie the planings company has to have proof of where they have "dumped" them.

You will be lucky to get them for free, the company's are able to tip them for you to put on your own unmetalled tracks but you pay transport and a price per ton the difficultly will be with needing a small transporter I always get a load when the are working on the dual carriageway near us I go down see the drivers direct and they drop them off.
I have one of the drivers number now so ring if I am needing them and he let's me know when they are nearby.
I keep a pile for patching and replace it when it gets low.
