Hello everyone,

Me and the OH are going on a bit of a road trip this coming weekend to Scotland.

We have a hotel booked on Friday night in Edinburgh, but other than that, we have nothing booked.

We want to see some beautiful places, possibly go riding somewhere (any suggestion?) and get a taste of the real Scotland.

I booked the trip as the OH has been all over the world to some great places, but has never been to Scotland. I am always telling him how nice it is, and now it the time to show it off!

Any suggestions will be welcome, even if it is just a good driving road etc!

Thanks!

Depends on how far you are willing to travel really...! A few suggestions for north and west:

- Loch Linnhe lodges were fabulous, really peaceful with loads of walks and stunning views. Adjoining hotel had good food if cooking was too much of an effort. http://www.lochlinnhelodges.co.uk/lodges.htm

- The ferry goes from Oban to Mull (CalMacs have great chips!)

- Also close to Loch Lomond, this place looks nice http://www.lochlinnhelodges.co.uk/lodges.htm

In regards to Edinburgh, there is The Castle, Scots Monument, museums, galleries, theatres, botanic garden, walks in the Pentlands. Hard to say as don't really know what you are interested in!

Suggestions for southern areas:

- Cally Palace in Dunfries and Galloway. Old fashioned, seriously amazing food. We went for the dinner dance last year and were blown away! 8 courses which were all exquisite, staff really friendly and all round lovely place. We met a man who came twice every month from Yorkshire and had his own room kept just for him..! http://www.mcmillanhotels.co.uk/cally-palace-hotel/index.html

- The Boat House in Kirkudbright was very pretty (not sure if you want self catering or not..!) http://www.kirkcudbrighthouses.co.uk/

Don't really know of any good riding places for adults but know the ones to avoid!

Anyway...too much to do in a weekend really!! Hope this helps a little :)

Absolutely stick to the west coast, work your way up from Oban up to Ullapool - stunning is the only word I can think of

If coming up the A68 on a scenic journey to Edinburgh, one place I can recommend for capable adult riders is near Jedburgh.

With regard to the rest, how long have you got and how far do you want to travel, new place each night?

A circular trip from Edinburgh would be follow the coast road round Fife to St Andrews then you could cross River Tay to Dundee or back to Perth, then to Crieff and head west and then you can then drive down Loch Lomondside back towards Glasgow and central belt

Glad you are coming to Edinburgh, that would have been my first suggestion. :D Perth, Crieff and the Trossachs are lovely a bit cold this time of year but still lovely.
