Is roads and tracks Hunting generally less heavy going and slower?

Less heavy going, yes. Slower.... Nor necessarily, but I guess you're less likely to go along at a gallop for long.

This winter had been so wet that no one is going anywhere that fast anyway!

Good, and no mostly although you'd be surprised! Our Hunt has only just started to slow up - although we are on old turf so it has held up quite well.

Same here!! I have never seen so many lively horses as yesterday. Especially with a biting wind and snow. Had a fun day though!!
