My 5yo mare had strangles in January and since returning to ridden work I have noticed that she roars and grunts badly when ridden, worse when she is stressed. The vet said that the abscesses may have damaged a nerve that opens some curtain type thing? She makes these noises in trot and canter, worse when worked on the bit. She is a lovely kind mare, willing on the flat and over a fence. She is bred to event and although I will only ever want to event and SJ at a low level, she is quite talented and I'm not happy with the noise. The vets are booked to endoscope her on Thursday and they already told me that they may need to perform a hobday and tieback. Has anyone had a horse with these symptoms? How effective are the hobday and tieback? What impact does this operation have on the competition performance and resale value of a horse?
