Does anyone know what kind of bit Robert's horse had in the Puissance?? It looks to me like a hackamore and a snaffle but I have never heard of combining a bitless with a bit

Any thoughts anyone?

they are often combined for showjumping snaffles and german hackamores and make a good pair.

You have the snaffle rein and just use the hackamore as and when for a horse who reacts well to increased nose and poll pressure but not more pressure on the bars/tounge.

edit to say on watching not liking how he uses it with only the one rein with roundings going from the snaffle to the bottom of the hackamore shank.

Thats what confused me - so presumably that means he had permanent nutcracker and poll action going on? Blimey, my horse's head would explode if he had all that going on

Although this is coming from the person who now gets a bit nervous with anything over 3 foot

Just had a look at your web page (yes I am having a Friday night in on the sofa

) - and just to say that you clearly know what you are talking about when it comes to jumping! I am very very impressed you and your horses look brilliant.

I thought Myler Combination at first glance, but when I paused the picture for a closer look, I'm sure it was a Hackamore and a snaffle as bridle had Cheek pieces & Slip head (like with a double).

Didn't think much of the roundings either, but hey it worked for this pair as they cleared the wall.

Nope, not a myler combo, its a german hackamore with a snaffle happy mouth, linked together with spur strap because the roundings didnt work...

as nice picture shows it is two things combined and not a 'combination bit and just for interest Eddie macken used to ride the immortal Boomerang in a similar combination of hackamore and bit x

He was useing a hackamore & a snaffle bridle, give that bit more control, but still able 2 steer.
Finbarr is a very strong horse 2 ride, my boss's friend owns him.

The roundings may not be as daft as you think - this actually limits the amount the shank on the German hackamore can move (i..e if you pull hard hackamore only goes so far and then snaffle kicks in more).

If you accidentally catch a horse with a German Hackamore you can break their nose.
