Has anyone every used their own range of turnout rugs before? They seem to be good value for money and with winter looming round the corner i should start getting my new girls wardrobe organised. If robinsons are a bit naff can anyone recommend good quality cheap rugs that dont just claim to be waterproof but actually are! i would love to be able to afford to get her a set of FAL rugs with Rambos for spare

but i have a feeling mum may be making me buy all my own rugs this year

I bought a Robinsons turnout about three winters ago - it was useless. It leaked along the back, the seams ripped within weeks, and although I don't have particularly broad-chested horses (Arabs) I had to buy a chest extension as well. Plus the velcro-ed tailflap doesn't last five minutes with a curious youngster.

The single biggest defect was that the lining was bigger than the outer, so it protruded at the back and wicked all the rain inside the rug ....

They may have improved them since then, but it wasn't worth even that low price.

Not a TO but I have a stable rug. Although it has some good points, like rubber surcingle stoppers and leg straps, it is a very poor fit, undersized all round and poorly cut and I'd not get another one.

What about the Shires range? And Premier Equine International do a heavy TO for £100, with detachable neck!

The Mark Todd range is excellent as is the Slumberdown range for heavyweight winter TO rugs. In fact, so good, that I keep my boy in the same rug day and night throughout the winter! Neither leak so alhough they are wet and muddy on the outside, they are all toasty and warm on the inside, and their body heat dries thge rugs out overnight so they are all dry the next morning and you don't have to put a damp turn out rug on. Been doing that for about 5 years now!
