Robinsons stores.. worth visiting?

The cannock one has hardly any parking..... and it is tiny compared to the one up North.

Robinsons have really lost the plot - most things are their own label - and its not worth buying and its pretty expensive.

What are you specifically looking for ?

Unless you are looking to kit out a yard with things like hayracks, buckets, bolts and stuff then no, they're no different to any of the stores like Countrywide. I was lucky 20 years ago, got all my yard fittings from them (and most are still going strong) but wouldn't touch their tack or trailers with a barge pole.

Robinsons used to be great, the sales were brill but I dont bother anymore. Unless you want buckets, leadropes and bits and bobs, I wouldnt bother.

Nope! I was really disappointed everything I wanted not in size do they recommend buying online! Don't waste your time! I went to the Basingstoke branch - a few friends have not taken my advice and learnt the hard way - a wasted trip!

i could spend all day wandering about in there but i never buy anything... their sales are crap and there is a lot of crazy people who go to them! luckily basingstoke branch is close so its not a massive waste of time but i wish they were better. the local tack shops seem to be better although robinsons do have a better rug selection than my local tack shops :)

This.
I used to really like the store in Haydock, it was worth the hour's journey. I've had several good bargains both at sales time and at other times but the last few times I've been the only thing I've bought has been a bowl of chips.

If you can get to Essex, Ingatestone Saddlery is worth a visit. They sell just about anything to do with horses, stock most brands, and have a really good cafe as well. :)

I am fairly close to Cannock and went last week, came away with a bottle of main and tail .... I very rarely go in there now however love diamond saddlery and their sale is normally worth a visit!

I've been to the one next to the M6 between Manchester and Liverpool when I was over in that direction for a dog show and I thought I'll stop there to look at riding hats. I was impressed with that store, they had it well stocked with loads of hats for me to try on.

I went to the Basingstoke one on Sunday for the first time ever. Was pretty good I managed to get some nice Toggi boots, feed buckets, a few brushes and some socks and gloves. Nice to go somewhere with a decent selection as the saddleries round here are very small and there's limited choice. Its a good hour and a half away though so won't be going too often!

I like the Haydock store. There's a good mixture of own brand bargain stuff and quality, more expensive gear. There is actually a great choice between cheap, cheerful and probably with a short life span, and branded stuff these days IMO. Unlike the tack shops near me which are pretty much full of cheap rubbish or full of silly priced Joules/Kingsland/etc.. Robinsons is far more across the board. Their supplement and yard kit prices are near enough unbeatable, again IME.

Sometimes things are out of stock in the more popular sizes though. ETA and the sales are pretty rubbish.

I quite like the Cannock store and as I work close by often pop in on a Thursday evening. I have bought quite a bit from there and the staff are really helpful

I did buy some rugs that were too small for my pony and returned them for larger sizes, they would actually fit my other pony now and they have been hanging around the shop since I took them back so I am half minded to make the journey to the sale in the hope of them being reduced but as I am on holiday from work its an hour and a half away and I dont know whether the potential bargains would be worth it or whether it would be old tat that is reduced and no good stuff!

The wigan store is like a jumbe sale unless you are very local its not worth it (we passed through last year on a holiday up north & wish we hadn't bothered stopping!)

The store that has been labeled the 'wigan', the 'one of the m6', 'the one at haydock' and the 'warrington' one will all be the same one - Ashton.
For what it's worth I love it and entirely kitted my horse out from there :)
