I've just had 8 months off riding due to a car accident and being pregnant, and rode for the first time yesterday! It went ok, but I am amazed at how stiff and wobbly I was - I thought I'd just get back on and be off like before! We just had a walk round for 10 minutes and I was knackered!!!

My horse is not the easiest ride in the world but was a very good boy, especially as he had been in for 2 days and hadn't been ridden for a fortnight. However, I was a bit anxious and now am not sure what to do next. Should I keep getting on my lad for a potter or should I have a few lessons at a riding school on a sensible, steady horse just til I get my confidence back? All opinions gratefully received!

Well done!!!

I took 2 years off with pregnancy and having daughter.

I didn't put any pressure on myself and did just potter with Molly. I then had some lessons at an RS on a plodder to gain my confidence as for some bizarre reason I have a cantering and jumping phobia.

I think once you have little ones, you do start thinking of the what ifs. I let it get to a stage where I now have a mental block with what I consider the more risky riding (although being dumped off just before Christmas hasn't helped).

It has definately helped me going to the RS and I've also got an instructor at my yard who is fabulous with me and Moll.

Well done again

When you feel fit enough, maybe then go to a riding school a lesson will be quite intense at this stage. Second Mollywops comment on confidence issues, just posted same sentiment with regards to having horses and children, nice to hear im not the only one.
