I was actually really nervous about getting on him again - turns out that new-found confidence is extremely fragile - since he'd been off for so long - last time I rode him was New Year's eve, and he hadn't been ridden for a couple of weeks then and he bucked a lot.

So I was scared he'd do the same thing today.

Well, he did.

But I dealt with it, didn't fall off and more importantly, didn't dismount and give up! So my confidence is returning rapidly. His owner, who I loan him from, rode him as well and watching him from the ground I realised just how much work we have to do before we can impress anybody in the show ring - he has no muscles in the right places and too many in the wrong places, he's less on the forehand now than he used to be but not by much, and he prefers to scuffle his feet along the floor rather than actually pick them up. Still, we've got plenty of time before summer to get him perfect for showing!

I am feeling very positive now - isn't it strange how the thing I was so scared of has actually made me so happy?!

I rode my mare for the first time today too. I was a bit nervous as she has'nt been ridden for about 8 weeks but she was good (well about as good as she ever is lol).

Me too

Fantastic, well done you! Can I just suggest one thing for the scuffling feet cob thing? Raised trotting poles, it really works and gets them using the right backend muscles. We definitely need more Scooby photos!

Oooh thanks, I will give it a go! He normally just trips over trotting poles... but that's my fault for not keeping him moving forwards enough.
I haven't got any pics of me riding him since the first time I sat on him, so I'm going to get someone down to be my photographer soon and then there will be a looong photo post.
