Help needed ROG!

Have looked on the gov.uk website with regards to my ability to legally tow. I have noticed they have appeared to downscale the requirements but I cant quite work out how.

Can you let me know if I still need to take a towing test.

Car - Land Rover Discovery 4
Trailer - Ifor 510 hunter
Weight of horse - approx 600kg

License held since 2001

Help!!!

That's not always the case. You can tow...deffinatly up to 750kg but there's also a combined law of a combined weight of 3500kg

You need to find. Out weight of car, trailer, horse plus passengers fuel and equipment. As all are factors, the combined weight I mentioned is car plus what your towing, chances are your all ready around 3tn so the answer would be no.

I've never known your car/trailer and horse combination to be within the restrictions for not needing a test. It would need to be a smaller lighter car and a light trailer that is downplated or something and the whole lot be less than 3.5t ROG knows the details. Try the thread that is at the top if the competition section I think

It is possible, I've towed in the past with a Subaru estate and a bayhill trailer. Set up was complete fine without a licence.

ROG, I can't remember, it was an ancient pony trailer. I had the set up approved by a towing instructor as I was having lessons in the aim of doing the test. I do remember it being very tight though - about 5-10kgs in it.
