My new filly by Rohdimant arrives on Tuesday so I am very, very excited indeed. I already own her neice out of the same mare line, which is one of the reasons I bought this filly.

I was just wondering if anyone knew what Rohdimant adds and anything to watch out for re temprement etc. The filly went directly to be backed and has been very laid back and sensible which I am pleased about as I would rather have a slightly lazy baby than one that is silly. Also, what bloodlines do Rohdimant offspring mix well with as I may put her in foal next year (or may not but its nice to dream). Filly moves exceptionally well in terms of athleticism and ability to collect & is elegant, but I don't know her well enough to know her good/bad points at this stage. She does dish slightly with one front leg so unless this sorts itself out as she matures would prefer a stallion with very stright movement. She is branded hanoverian.

Any ideas or info very gratefully received!

I don't really have any pics as I only saw her once 7 weeks ago!!!!! There is a foal pic on her breeders website as well as some nice pics of her neice (Merinka) that I co-own with a friend. Stud website Her name is Renaissance and she has a very similar frame to Merinka though I think she will be a bit more substantial. If she is anything like Merinka I will be over the moon as Merinka has to be my horse of a lifetime. She won her first ever medium last weekend which was only her second show with us

I have a couple of blurry pics the breeder sent but I'm not sure how to post pics - I should be ashamed as I have been a member for long enough!!!!
 
Thanks! I wasn't sure if she may be a little plain with so little white, but I think she is pretty. I have only seen her once 7 weeks ago and it seems like a lifetime. She is going very well though and the lady backing her says she is naturally balanced and carries herself very well so thats all promising.

I think I will have to try another hanoverian forum I know for info on bloodlines. Some lines really 'nick' with each other and the stud always used Rubenstein sons/grandsons for this fillys mother as it really suited her.
 
Well its a generalization but that line is known for its trainability as a key point. From what I know, some jumping influence in the bottom line works well with Rohdiamant himself. I think this is because there is a lot of blood in his pedigree (eg inschallah ) so he works on some of the stronger framed jumper type mares

What is the dam line of your filly? You could also consider a Donnerhall influence, one of the slightly older fashioned/larger stamps like De Niro, as your filly looks like she could handle a larger stamp of stallion without losing the modernity
 
Funny you mention De Niro as I was thinking of him myself as this fillys mother produced a filly by Donnerschlag (a Donnerhall son) who then produced my other mare Merinka when crossed with Medoc. The sires on the mare side I don't know - they include Watussi and Cardinal. Her passport is with her so I am working off memory.

I think she may cross well with Donnerhall lines but there are so many nice stallions out there its hard to choose, and nice to get other peoples opinions and experience

I've not known many, but the few Rubensteins I have had the pleasure to work with have been lovely horses. I really mean that. So easy to work with and so trainable and quick to learn. I don't know anything of Rohdiamant stock though.
 
Thanks Spookynight! Its nice to know that line passes on good temprement and trainability. The filly was very good and easy to start. The first time she was properly sat on (as opposed to being leaned over) she started backing up and the rider thought 'whats she going to do?' Turns out she had spotted some roses behind her and was backing up so she could eat them.

She wasn't bothered about being sat on in the slightest!
 
I have a mare by Royal dance (Rohdiamant x Donnerhall) x Vatout, she has a fab trainable temp, when i backed her she was no bother at all and worked really well. She is very sharp, I think that comes from the trakenher side though but a brilliant mare. She had her first foal this year by Saint Malo by Salieri, the foal so far seems to be less sharp but has the same fab temp and learns so quickly just like her mother.
I agree that introducing SJ stallions or those that produce sj and dressage can work really well.
 
I also like SJ blood. Merinka (this fillies neice) is by Medoc who is duel purpose and although she is aimed at dressage I do pole work and a little jumping for fun and she has a massive jump. Merinka is very sharp though I don't think this filly will be (famous last words) or at least shge isn't at the moment

Athene is a very common name for Hanoverians, if you can give me more info (when you get her passport) I can surely find out her pedigree too.

I can second the trainability of both sides.
Yes they do tend to be a little on the 'plain' side but 'hansome is as hansome does' and these horses for me have always delivered the good s and been lovely to train and go on to be really beautiful because of their enjoyment of work.

I know three Rhodiamants and while they are lovely and trainable, the one thing they do have in common is being slightly weak behind the saddle - i.e. its is difficult to get them really working over their backs and engaging their hind legs. This might be a fluke of course.
 
Hi not sure if it helps at all but i have a 5yr old by Rubin Royal who has Rubinstein and Rohdiamant lines. He's a darling. Very trainable, was straight forward to back and has a super temperament. Moves very well. He does have a long back though so has needed a lot of strengthening work. xxx

I have considered whether Medoc maybe be a good match and he is just down the road, so I am going to go see him. I have to say I LOVE Don Ricoss and the filly in the pic is stunning. This filly now I have seen her in the flesh again (arrived yesterday) is very, very beautiful. The pics don't do her justice. You can see the AA coming out in her head. I think a Don Ricoss baby would be pretty awesome with her.
